Chaitra Navratri is a nine-night festival dedicated to nine forms of the God/dess.
Most celebrated in Northern and Western India, this festival celebrates Spring and the creative power of the feminine principle. For some, this holiday marks the beginning of the new year.
The celebration takes many different forms, from region to region. Goddess images vary as do the rituals: dances, fire ceremonies, mantras, fasting, decorations, and contemplative practice associated with each.
Although the rituals may be different from one household to the next, nearly every community in India joins the festivities in one form or another.
